Founded by Kathy Wolfe and celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Wolfe Video is the longest-running and largest distributor of LGBTQ+ films in the world. As a trailblazer in providing a platform for queer features, Wolfe Video has released a range of films from classic hits like Big Eden and Sordid Lives to contemporary films like Hurricane Bianca and Sue Bird: In The Clutch that continue to resonate with LGBTQ+ viewers. Wolfe Video's continued dedication to supporting discovery through broad all-rights distribution and effective marketing ensures its position as an iconic name in the industry.

During the 1990s, Wolfe Video was one of the first companies to distribute LGBTQ+ films at major entertainment retailers including Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and Netflix’s DVD-by-mail service, in addition to a network of nearly 27,000 independently owned-and-operated video stores in the United States. Notable releases from Wolfe Video’s first decade include Lily Tomlin’s The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life In The Universe and Claire of the Moon, the first feature film from writer/director Nicole Conn.

In the 2000s, Wolfe Video’s popularity in DVD distribution led the company to adapt to new theatrical, download, on-demand rental, and streaming distribution models. Wolfe Video was a launch partner for Netflix’s streaming service in 2007.

Today, Wolfe Video is a direct supplier to the industry’s top streaming and rental platforms while continuing to support DVD, non-theatrical, festival, and, for select titles, theatrical exhibition.

Evan Schwartz is now Head of Content for Wolfe Video, having joined Wolfe Video in 2017, and previously held roles at Cinetic, Amplify Releasing, Brainstorm Media, and Outfest, where he has served as a narrative feature jurist.
