Anthony Mackie stars as Perry, a young black gay artist struggling to find his voice. Perry meets Bruce Nugent (Roger Robinson) an elderly poet, and together they embark on a surreal narrative journey through his inspiring past. Vivid flashback enactments bring the era to life and we meet such brilliant figures as Langston Hughes, Wallace Thurman and Zora Neale Hurston.
