Winner: 2009 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Limited Release
Zach (Trevor Wright), an aspiring artist fresh out of high school, can't help but feel his life is stuck in a rut. Forced to skip out on college to provide for his family at a dead-end job flipping burgers, and being a father-figure to his nephew Cody while his older sister Jeanne falls in love with yet another loser boyfriend, Zach is envious of his best friend, Gabe, a carefree surfing buddy enjoying his first semester away at college. So, for Zach, being stuck in San Pedro with no hope of having a life of his own and having to forsake his dreams, surfing becomes his only solace.
Enter Shaun (Brad Rowe, Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss), Gabe's openly gay older brother, returning to San Pedro following a break-up with his boyfriend back in Los Angeles. Eager for friendships outside his usual circle, Zach quickly bonds with Shaun, eagerly anticipating their time together surfing the waves. Their budding friendship soon turns into a hot love affair.
Inspiring, experienced, even nurturing, Shaun is everything Zach desires, but Zach isn't fully accepting of himself as a gay man, causing a strain in their love life and in their friendship. Then Zach sister Jeanne, not really accepting herself but protective, discovers that their is an affair between the two which provokes her to split them up. Now Zach is forced to confront his closeted mentality or risk losing his first true love forever.
This exceptionally well-produced film has nabbed awards at numerous LGBT film festivals and has been a sure-fire hit with audiences everywhere.
